A unique window into a language and culture that was transplanted from 14th century Spain, and is retained by a small emigre community in Turkey. Karen Sarhon is a native speaker of Ladino, and has collected a world-renowned archive of Ladino song and language that gives us an extraordinary insight into the way a culture travels both regionally and through centuries. All our welcome. Save the date! Venue details at Harcourt Hill to be confirmed.
The HSS Gender Network Reading group will begin this semester, reading Judith Butler Undoing Gender, London: Routledge 2004. We will have two sessions to discuss the book on Thursday the 6th of November and Thursday the 4th of December (time and place to be discussed among those interested). If you are interested in joining, please email Molly Cochran, mcochran@brookes.ac.
